Hi all,

A guy I work with (Bob H.) pointed me to your group so I decided to say "Hello". Depending on my schedule, I may do a ride-along with him for the March run. I enjoy camping, Dutch Oven cooking, photography and off-roading. It seems like your group is a pretty good fit! LOL!

Here's my "rig". The SUV is a 1999 Isuzu Trooper. The camping trailer is my "Desert Dawg" trailer that I just finished building. (It's a long story)

Although I don't get out as much as I would like to, one of my favorite places is primitive camping at the North Rim.

Anyway, I should get going...

Joanne,

WOW!! I just spent the last two hours reading all about your Desert Dawg. I am really impressed. I had been talking to a freind about building one, but your experiences are really eye-opening.

Welcome to the sight, and I hope we get the chance to talk about your experiences sometime soon.

Travis

Hi Joanne,
Are you refering to Bob H. (J-Bob the G-man from GCB), if you are I'm so sorry. Just kidding. I work next door at WMS.

Welcome to the Club's message board. Like Justin said, look under Club Runs, Fun Runs and Exploring and Campouts. Our next Club Run is 3/15. Some of us that are going on the run, will be camping out near Searchlight if you want to bring Desert Dawg out. You are more than welcome to join us.

P.S. Tell G-man he better come out. I haven't seen him in almost 2 years.

Justin, thanks for the welcome and the nice words about the trailer. I'm going to try to make the 3/15 event. I'm not sure about camping yet.

Hi Travis,

I've heard a number of folks say that they experienced many lost hours wandering around the website. LOL!! I've tried to document the build so that folks considering building their own trailer can get an idea of what it takes. Mine isn't the RIGHT way, it's just the way that I did it. We all build a bit different.

If you haven't been here yet, this is THE teardrop trailer website: http://www.mikenchell.com/forums/ I would suggest that you attend a teardrop gathering if at all possible to see first hand all the neat ideas. If you are serious about building, let me know and you can swing by the house to get a up-close look at the Dawg.

Anyway, I hope to see you with a trailer before long! LOL!!

Hi RB!

I didn't realize that J-Bob was his "handle" on this group, but I do work with him. I believe that he's planning on making the 3/15 event.

So you are over at WMS? I worked out of the Pilot Rd office this past Tuesday, though I generally work at the Sawyer Building up by Cashman Field. If you live in North Las Vegas, you have a mean drive home in the evening. I'm up in the Lone Mtn & Decatur area and the drive home from down there is painful!

Anyway, I look forward to making some of your events.

Joanne

Hi, thanks for the welcome.

I understand the lack of space! When I head out to a Dutch Oven gathering I can fill the whole back of my Trooper with "stuff". If you set up a "base camp", the enclosed trailer is ideal. I considered getting one before I stumbled onto the teardrop trailers. I tent camped for years but wanted to get up off the ground, thus the teardrop.

Catch you down the road,

Joanne

Hi,

Thanks for the kudos on the trailer. It's really a joy to camp in. I got tired of setting up and taking down a tent, so this was the next best thing. Plus I like to cook, so having a galley in back is perfect for me.

Catch you on one of the runs!

Joanne

Welcome to the site, this is a great group of people as you will soon find out. Now about your trailer WOW!!!, that is something to be proud of. I have built a lot of things in my young life, but that takes some dedication. I have wanted a small trailer ever since I got rid of my 5th wheel (tent camping sucks!!) I think my Jeep could pull something like this no problem. I will have to buy one, garage already full of 1961 VW in mass dissassembly. See you on the trail. Robby

A '61 Bug would make a great trailer :P

Hey Robby,

Thanks for the kudos!! There are a lot of folks who pull their tears with Jeeps and don't have any problems. I would be inclined to want brakes on the trailer if I was towing with a Jeep, but regardless it should be just fine. I'm not sure that any of the commercially produced trailers would be up to off-road travel, but a lot of folks have built their own off-road tears that are plenty strong. That said, a lot of tears are available both new and used. They are perfect for folks who don't want to tent and don't want a big RV either.

I know a gal in Utah who built a lightweight trailer and pulls it behind her Subaru outback. She still gets over 20mpg.
